Description
Benzoin incense, often referred to as “Loban” or “Loban incense,” has its roots in Southeast Asia. It is primarily sourced from the resin of various species of the storax tree, particularly Styrax benzoin and related species. These storax trees are native to regions such as Sumatra, Java, and Thailand.
The resin is obtained through a process of making incisions in the tree’s bark, allowing the gum-like resin to ooze out. Once collected, the resin is harvested, processed, and used to create fragrant incense. Loban has a rich history in traditional Asian cultures, where it has been used for centuries in religious rituals, as an offering to deities, for meditation, and for its aromatic properties.
