- Also known as: Bari Harad, Pili Harad, Yellow Myrobalan, Mature Haritaki, Harde, Chebulic Myrobalan (Mature).
- Scientific name: Terminalia chebula (The fully matured fruit of the Haritaki tree, harvested after the inner seed has hardened).
- What it’s known for: Its "Nutrient-Rich Maturity." Unlike the black (immature) variety, Yellow Haritaki is fully developed—larger, denser, and more fibrous. It is traditionally valued as a foundational wellness ingredient and widely used in bulk herbal preparations like Triphala.
- Visual profile: Large, oval-shaped, and deeply ribbed fruits. Characterized by a dusty golden-brown to mustard-yellow color with a thick, leathery outer rind.
- Flavor profile: Strongly astringent and bitter, with mild sour undertones. It has a deep, earthy taste that feels more grounding compared to the black variety.
-
How to prepare:
Due to its hard inner seed, the outer rind is typically used. Break the fruit using a mortar and pestle, remove the seed, and grind the dried yellow skin into a fine powder for use. -
How it’s used:
A key ingredient in Triphala powder and other classical formulations. Also used as a natural dye, digestive tonic (often taken with honey or jaggery), and as a base ingredient in high-tannin herbal preparations. -
Quality profile:
Premium-grade, fully matured fruits selected for their size, color, and density. Naturally sun-dried and rich in tannins, with a firm, fibrous texture that reflects high botanical integrity.
