• Scientific Name: Coffea arabica L. Qishr Ghahwa consists of dried pieces of the outer skin and pulp of ripe Arabica coffee cherries, traditionally brewed as a fragrant Yemeni beverage.
• Also Known As: Qishr, Qishr Ghahwa, Qishr Al-Qahwa, Qahwa Qishr, Yemeni Coffee Husk, Coffee Cherry Husk, Coffee Cascara, Coffee Cherry Tea and Dried Coffee Fruit Husk.
• Traditional Yemeni Beverage: Qishr is traditionally prepared by gently brewing or simmering the dried coffee husks with ginger. Cinnamon, cardamom, cloves or sugar may also be added according to personal and regional preference.
• Fruity Tea-Like Character: Unlike roasted coffee beans, coffee cherry husk produces a lighter infusion with fruity, gently tart, mildly sweet, floral, tea-like and dried-fruit notes. The exact flavour varies naturally according to the coffee variety, ripeness and drying method.
• How to Prepare: Add approximately 6–9g to 250ml of hot water. Cover and steep for 5–10 minutes, then strain. For traditional Yemeni qishr, gently simmer with ginger and optional cinnamon or cardamom.
