• Scientific Name: Coffea arabica L. Arabian Cascara consists of dried coffee cherry husks—the outer fruit material surrounding the coffee seeds—prepared as a traditional hot or chilled infusion.
• Also Known As: Qishr, Qishr Ghahwa, Qishr Al-Qahwa, Gishr, Kishr, Coffee Cascara, Coffee Cherry Husk, Coffee Cherry Tea, Coffee Fruit Husk and Dried Coffee Cherry Peel.
• Traditional Arabian Preparation: Qishr is traditionally prepared by brewing or gently simmering the dried coffee husks with ginger. Cinnamon, cardamom, cloves or sugar may also be added according to personal preference.
• Fruity Tea-Like Flavour: Coffee cascara produces a beverage that is lighter and more fruit-forward than roasted coffee, with naturally sweet, fruity, herbal, woody, dried-fruit and tea-like notes. Flavour varies according to the coffee variety, drying and processing method.
• How to Prepare: Add approximately 8–9g of Arabian Cascara to 250ml of hot water. Cover and steep for 5–8 minutes, then strain. For traditional qishr, gently simmer with ginger and optional warm spices.
