  • Scientific name: Dactylorhiza hatagirea (A critically endangered orchid species native to the high-altitude alpine meadows of the Himalayas, usually found at 2,800m to 4,000m).

  • What it’s known for: Its unique palm-shaped tubers that resemble a human hand with fingers. It is legendary in Himalayan folk medicine as a "Brimhana" (deeply nourishing) herb of the highest order.

  • How to prepare: The whole dried "claws" are ground into a fine powder. This powder is traditionally slow-simmered in milk with warming spices like cardamom or mixed into a thick "Kheer" (heritage pudding).

  • How it’s used: A premier ingredient in "Vajikarana" (vitality) rituals; it is often blended with Ashwagandha and Safed Musli to create high-potency traditional tonics for strength, stamina, and physical recovery.
