  • Scientific Name: Terminalia chebula Retz. Dried Black Haritaki consists of whole dark fruits with a naturally elongated shape, longitudinal ridges, wrinkled surface and hard central stone. Terminalia chebula is the accepted botanical name and belongs to the Combretaceae family.

    Also Known As: Black Myrobalan, Chebulic Myrobalan, Kali Harad, Haritaki, Harad, Harra, Halelaj Aswad, Halileh Siyah, Kadukkai, Karakkaya, Alale and Hirda.

    What It’s Known For: A traditional South Asian and Unani botanical fruit with intensely astringent, bitter, earthy and slightly sour notes. Haritaki fruit pericarp is commonly prepared as powder and used in traditional botanical formulations, including Triphala-style blends.

    How to Use: Crack the whole dried fruit, separate the hard central stone and grind the dried outer fruit material when powder is required. Use only according to the selected traditional formulation or preparation instructions; it is not normally eaten as a dried-fruit snack.
