What it is: Whole dried pods from a tropical climbing shrub/tree traditionally used as a botanical cleanser in South & Southeast Asia.

What it’s known for: Pods contain natural saponins with surface/foaming activity—this is why shikakai is widely used in traditional shampoo/cleansing preparations.

How it’s used: Soak or simmer pods in water, mash, then strain and use the liquid as a gentle hair wash; often combined with reetha (soap nuts) and amla in traditional blends.
